Fine, Heavy, Yataghan Sword with Damascus Blade Dated 1177 (1763) - 9669


Up for sale is this fine Yataghan sword dated to 1177 (1763 in the Gregorian calendar). The short heavy blade is 24 inches long with a very wide, more than 2 inches wide belly. The blade is finely forged from multi layered twisted steel in the pattern known as Turkish Ribbon, common to the higher quality Yataghans in the 18 C. The grip strap and bolsters are silver with granulated work and the grips are horn inlaid with many mother of pearl round inserts. Total length 28 inches. Very good condition. The bolsters and grip strap are restored. Minor horn chips on the grips. This Yataghan comes with its original scabbard, unfortunately badly damaged and badly restored (Not shown). A fine heavy and impressive yataghan.
