Fine Caucasian (Dagestan ??) Silver Belt - 9635

Not exactly a weapon but a fine example of Caucasian silver art. This silver belt is from the late 19 C., including 17 links (each of two sectors) very finely chiseled, nielloed and gilded and the buckle parts. Each link is marked on the back with a silver proof mark MX 84 and the name of the maker in Cyrillic letters M. AYRAPETOV . The name suggest the Dagestani attribution. Total length 27 inches. Very good condition. Several links missing. |
