This fine yafaghan sword is dated to 1181 (1767 in the Gregorian calendar). The classical blade is 22 inches long, finely fullered below the spine and richly decorated with gold koftgari work: Floral design and inscription in Arabic letters. Steel bolsters and grip strap also beautifully decorated with gold inlay. Walrus grips. The gold koftgari date is inlaid on the right bolster. A later, may be 19 C. scabbard was fitted for this sword with leather cover and white metal mounts. Total length 28 inches. Very good condition. Loses to the gold work on the lower grip strap. A fine complete Yataghan.
