This very fine Yataghan sword is dated to 1241 (1825 in the Gregorian calendar). It is from the Balkan area of the Ottoman empire. The finely forged and finely fullered blade is 23 inches long, elaborately and richly inlaid with gold koftgari work; Inscription in Arabic letters and the date. The grips are walrus ivory with big ears and the grip strap is steel as well as the bolsters, all finely inlaid with gold. Total length 28 1/2 inches. Very good condition. Age crack in the right grip. No scabbard.
