Good Early, Piha Kahetta Dagger / Knife from Sri Lanka - 9526

Another good d “PIHA KAHETTA”, the traditional knife of the Sinhalese from Sri-Lanka (Ceylon). It always has a single edged short heavy down curving blade, and the hilt is elaborately decorated in various techniques of decorative arts. This specific example is probably from the second half of the 18 C. it has a thick blade 8 inches long, (but only about 5 inches of the blade length has an edge), nicely chiseled and inlaid with brass and silver decoration. The bolster is brass, chiseled in a beautiful design and inlaid with silver. The grips are made from dark horn engraved and set with chased silver mounts. Original wood scabbard. Total length is 12 inches. Very good condition to age. Well patinated blade with few pitted spots and edge nicks. Losses to the silver cover of the blade spine. Minor damage to the silver pommel cap. Cracks and minor losses to the scabbard. A good item in very good condition and very attractive price.
