Up for sale is this very good Balkan Yataghan with impressive walrus ivory grips with big ears. Finely forged blade decorated with gold koftgari work, inscription in Arabic letters and the date 1277 (??) Corresponding to 1860 in the Gregorian calendar). Blade is 26 inches long with a later stamping 742 (Probably an armory or a collection catalog number) Gilded filigree copper grip strap set with ribbed coral stones. Gilded filigree copper bolsters with red colored stone. Total length 31 inches. Very good condition. Nicks and dents on the edge and losses to the silver koftgari work. Later solder repairs on the bolsters and on the grip strap. Gilding mostly gone. No scabbard.
