Fine Arab Saif Sword with Wootz Blade - 9522

This Saif is a very rare version of Arab sword from the South Arabian Peninsula. A fine heavy sword, with a 26 inches long single edge fullered blade with an 8 inches back edge. The blade is forged from fine wootz (Damascus) steel, and it is most probably a secondary use of an 18 C. Persian blade. The hilt and cross guard are later, early to mid 20 C., whole silver in a typical form reminding in a way the hilt of the Moroccan Nimcha sword. The scabbard is wood covered with black leather with big silver locket and chape. Total length 32 inches. Very good condition. Minor losses and repairs to the leather. A very fine piece.
