Fine Indian Wootz Shamshir Sword - 9504


This fine Shamshir sword is Indian, early 19 C., with a fine wootz (Damascus, watered) steel blade, 30 1/2 inches long, marked with a gold inlaid mark. The blade is welded from two parts in the style known as Scarf Welding, a technique common to good Indian blades. Classical Tulwar style handle richly decorated with fine gold koftgari work all around. Scabbard covered with fabric and mounted with a pierced silver chape (later). Total length 37 inches.
