Fine Rare Indian Kirash Sword with Wootz Damascus Blade - 9461

This is a rare cousin of the Tulwar, the famous Indian sword / saber. It is known as Kirash or Karash and it is characterized by the slightly down curving blade with the edge on the concave side and the down curving spine with a false edge. This one is a very good exemplar with a unique blade double fullered with a curling pattern of the fullers and showing a wootz structure. Blade length 30 inches. False edge 8 1/2 inches. The blade also shows a welding pattern known as Scarff welding about 9 inches below the handle. The hilt is typical whole steel Tulwar style. Original fabric covered scabbard with silver tip (recent). Total length 36 inches. Very Good condition. Minor forging flaws on the blade. |
