Very Fine Tiger Teeth Jambiya Dagger - India - 0657


A very fine Jambiya dagger from India, Probably from the late 18th Century. This type of Jambiya with the three lobed pommel is common in the southern parts of India, and it is also known as ‘Tiger Teeth’ dagger. It is found in a variety of qualities but usually in very similar shapes: The three lobed pommel and the blade with a central rib, reinforced edges and slightly thickened tip. The ricasso is usually etched or engraved / chiseled with hunting scenes or gold inlaid with floral design. This one is 13 inches long (in scabbard) Good Indian wootz (crystalline) blade with gold koftgari decoration on the ricasso and the bolsters and elephant ivory hilt. The scabbard is pierced steel decorated with silver and gold koftgary.
