Fine 19 C. Jambiya Dagger from Oman - 9409

A fine, late 19 C Arab Jambiya dagger. This style of daggers is called Omani, as its originate from Oman. However it is spread as well as other Jambiya’s styles all over the Arabian Peninsula. It has an 8 inches curved and dual edge blade with a pronounced central rib, forged from good steel (not like many new Jambiya’s on the market whose blade are made from two-iron sheet pressed to form and welded together). The hilt is the classical “I” shaped cut from a massive solid piece of Rhino horn with a front panel composed of hundreds of silver nails with hexagonal flat head and chased silver collar. The scabbard is “L” shaped covered with silvery threads. The belt attachment is made of complicate arrangements of seven silver rings and twisted silver wire. This dagger comes with its original belt embroidered gilded wires and with silver buckle. All scabbard and hilt fittings are silver chased in a typical design. Very good condition. Few threads are torn. Damaged areas on the belt. The fabric on the back side is lightly damaged. One side of the belt is shortened. A good typical and early authentic item. |
