Very Good Long Sword from Java (TJIKEROEH), Dated 1901 - 9387

This is a very interesting sword from Indonesia. It was made in the village of TJIKEROEH (CHIKOREA in the modern Indonesian spelling), famous in the production of edged weapons of various shapes. Many blades were done as a special order for foreigners, mainly Dutch people residing in Indonesia. This one here is an excellent example of a mix of Indonesian and western styles. The blade is well forged, heavy, 25 inches long, longer than the average 19 inches for similar swords, with a clipped tip. It is very finely engraved and signed TJIKEROEH, 1901. (The signature is just below the shell guard) Horn handle and brass cross guard and grip mounts in the style and shape of a European short sword. Black painted wood scabbard with white metal locket and brass chape. Total length 34 inches. Very good condition.
