Balkan Yataghan Sword with Damascus Blade Dated 1195 ( 1780 ) - 9382


A good early “YATAGHAN”, the famous Ottoman sword. This specific example is 18 C dated to 1195 (1780 in the Gregorian calendar). It has a 26 inches blade forged from pattern welded (Damascus) steel in the pattern known as Turkish Ribbon achieved by forge welding of several twisted steel rods to one ingot. This pattern was common to Ottoman blades as from the 17C. The blade is inlaid with silver ( true inlay) decoration, Arabic inscriptions and the date. Horn grips with wide pommel "ears". Beautiful silver bolsters and grip strap. Total length 32 inches. Good condition. Pitted areas on the blade and losses to the silver inlay. Repairs on the silver bolsters. No scabbard
