Turkish / Greek Bichaq with Pattern Welded (Damascus) Blade - 9340

This short knife in the shape of a small Yataghan is of Turkish origin, early to mid 19 C also known as Bichaq. Its single edge blade is 9 inches long, forged from pattern welded steel in the pattern known as Turkish Ribbon. The blade is somewhat crudely engraved in Greek letters STAVERANOS PATEROS ??, probably the owner name The Handle and bolsters are covered with engraved silver, The silver and the scabbard is finely chased silver with wood liners. Total length 15 inches. Very good condition. Few pitted spots on the blade and minor losses on the handle. A very interesting item, coming from the Turkish side and probably ended in the Greek side. |
