A fine RENTONG knife / dagger from the Malay Archipelago. The version offered here is mostly used by the Achenese people from North West Sumatra (see Stone Glossary, fig. 106 number 4 page 85). The blade is 10 inches long down curving and single edged, forged from fine laminated steel. The hilt is horn with clear fibrous structure (Rhino??) with sharply up-curving pommel. The scabbard is finely grained wood. Total length 17 inches. Very good condition. Altogether a fine piece from the second half of the 19th C attractive and decorative item.
