Saber in the Style of a Parang Nabur Sword from Kalimantan (Borneo) - 9286

Up for sale is this interesting example of a short saber from Kalimantan in the style of the Parang Nabur. This saber shaped sword with the D guard is strongly influenced from the naval cutlasses carried by the Dutch sailors, and shows a perfect blend of European with Islamic styles. Up-curving heavy blade 20 inches long, well forged and most probably from laminated steel. The handle is honey colored horn and the cross guard and D guard are steel, somewhat crudely made. Wood scabbard with black wood mouth and tip. Total length 29 inches. Very good condition with good age patina on all parts. Minor horn chips on the handle
