Fine Balkan Yataghan Sword with Damascus Blade, Dated 1810 - 9280


A fine example of the “YATAGHAN”, the famous Ottoman sword. This specific example is dated to 1225 in the Islamic calendar (1810 in the Gregorian Calendar). It has a 25 inches blade forged from fine pattern welded (Damascus) steel in the pattern known as Turkish Ribbon achieved by forge welding of several twisted steel rods to one ingot. This pattern was common to Ottoman blades as from the 17C. The blade is inlaid with silver ( true inlay) including inscription in Arabic letters and the date 1225. Horn grips with wide pommel "ears". Beautiful silver bolsters and grip strap. Total length 31 inches. Very good condition. Minor edge nicks. Minor losses to the silver bolsters. No scabbard
