Very Interesting Turkish / Georgian (??) Yataghan Sword - 9274


The blade of this yataghan sword is an early one, probably late 18 to early 19 C. and it is marked with a maker sign and engraved sword shape as commonly found on similar period Yataghans. Some later, the blade was finely etched to imitate a Turkish ribbon pattern and inscriptions in a Georgian (??) letters were added, New horn grips and grip strap were also added. The grips are finely engraved in a classical patterns of birds, antelope sun and moon images. This added etching and grips were probably done in the Caucasus in the late 19 C. Blade length 24 inches, Total length 30 inches. Very good condition. No scabbard. A very interesting sword.
