Very Good Short Sword from Java (TJIKEROEH), Dated 1919 - 9236

This is a very interesting short sword from Indonesia. It was made in the village of TJIKEROEH (CHIKOREA in the modern Indonesian spelling), famous in the production of edged weapons of various shapes. Many blades were done as a special order for foreigners, mainly Dutch people residing in Indonesia. This one here is an excellent example of a mix of Indonesian and western styles. The blade is short and heavy, 18 inches long, with a down curving spine tip. It is very finely engraved and signed WIR A.Z.M TJIKEROEH, 1919. Hardwood ribbed handle and brass cross guard in the style and shape of a European short sword. Black painted wood scabbard with white metal mounts. Total length 24 1/2 inches. Very good condition. |
