Semi-Military Khaybar Sword - Afghanistan - 5913

This is a very interesting variant of the famous Khaybar sword from Afghanistan. In 1889 A standards sword was issued to the Afghani military forces. Prominent officers however, were allowed to use their own swords but to fit them with the standard military hilt. Therefore one can find a variety of blades from the period fitted with the same hilt. I have seen Khaybar sword blades, Tulwar blades and even a wootz shamshir blade so fitted. The sword offered here is one of such combinations: A massive Khaybar blade 19 inches long with a pronounced T spine. Standard military shape hilt with brass / horn grips and steel guard. Very nice and unusual scabbard with decorative pierced steel fittings. Very good condition. Minor blackened areas on the blade. Signs of old repairs to the hilt. Scabbard with the original leather and fittings. |
