Superb Arab Shamshir Sword - Wootz - 5914

This is an Arabic Saber / Saif of very good plus quality. The blade is a Persian Shamshir blade, 32 inches long, of wonderful wootz forging and signed with the maker sign in gold koftgari. The hilt is composed of elephant ivory grips, silver cross-guard with gold plaque and silver grip strap and pommel, all in a typical Arab style and decoration. The cross guard is secured to the grip and bound with silver wire. The scabbard is wood mounted with engraved silver locket and chape, and stitched with the famous silver spiral binding. Very good condition allover. Blade with very minor edge nicks, grips with hairpin size age cracks and about four inches of the silver wire stitching of the scabbard leather is missing. This is a very old, early 18 C. blade with late 19 Century fittings. The cross guard is probably later to the other hilt parts but it is still old and authentic addition, designed perfectly together with the scabbard mounts. A prize to the serious collector.
