Very Good Rentong Knife / Dagger, Ache, Sumatra - 9186

A very nice RENTONG knife / dagger from the Malay Archipelago. The version offered here is mostly used by the Achenese people from North West Sumatra (see Stone Glossary, fig. 106 number 4 page 85). The blade is 8 1/2 inches long down curving and single edged, forged from fine laminated steel. The hilt is horn with the pommel end sharply up-curving. The scabbard is wood lightly chiseled in geometrical design on one side and very finely engraved with delicate design on the other side. Total length 15 inches. Very good condition. Minor pitted spots on the blade. Age cracks on the handle horn and chips to the scabbard mouth. Altogether a very nice piece from the second half of the 19th C attractive and decorative item. |
