Very Good Short Sword from Java (TJIKOREH), Dated 1913 - 9168

This is a very interesting short sword from Indonesia. It was made in the village of TJIKOREH (CHIKOREA in the modern Indonesian spelling), famous in the production of edged weapons of various shapes. Many blades were done as a special order for foreigners, mainly Dutch people residing in Indonesia. This one here is an excellent example of a mix of Indonesian and western styles. The blade is short and heavy, 12 inches long, with a pronounced clipped tip. It is very finely engraved and signed TJ?K?R (most probably standing for TJIKOREH) and dated to 1913. The black painted wood handle is styled in the shape of a European short sword and set with white metal collar Black painted wood scabbard with white metal mounts. Total length 20 inches. Very good condition. |
