Laz Bichaq Yataghan Sword from the Black Sea - 9132

The origin of this unusual and rare sword was in fierce debates between collectors and researchers of blad weapons. It was attributed to the Caucasus, Kurdistan, North Africa, Turkey, Malaya as well as other origins. However, most probably it is coming from North / East Turkey and was found in Caucasian areas as well. It is best known as Black Sea Yatagan or Laz Bichaq. It is characterized by the deeply re-curving blade and bifurcated pommel. This one has a 27 inches blade decorated with a typical punched dots design and brass strips inlay. The grip is covered with black leather strips bound by twisted brass wire and the pommel spikes are horn. Total length 34 1/2 inches. Very good condition.
