Very Good Very long and Heavy Flyssa Sword, Morocco - 9131

We offer for sell this Flyssa, the traditional sword of the Kabyles people of Morocco. These type of swords come with blades of various sizes from 12 up to 40 inches plus. This one is the longest we have seen 43 inches, with a 35 ½ inches blade 16 mm thick. It is single edge widening to its maximum about 14 inches from the tip. The blade is inlaid with brass decoration. The hilt is a combination of steel and wood covered with engraved brass in a styled animal head. The scabbard is wood, carved in a classical local style and bound with brass bands. Very good condition. Few worm holes in the wood (non active). Two brass bands of the scabbard are missing. This is a real and very impressive fighting weapon, quite rare at these dimensions and with the original scabbard. Probably late 19 to early 20 C. |
