Fine Balkan Yataghan Sword with Damascus Blade. - 9056

A fine and example of the “YATAGHAN”, the famous Ottoman sword. This specific example is early to mid 19 C., probably of Balkan origin. It has a 25 inches blade forged from fine pattern welded (Damascus) steel in the pattern known as Turkish Ribbon achieved by forge welding of several twisted steel rods to one ingot. This pattern was common to Ottoman blades as from the 17C. The blade is richly inlaid with silver ( true inlay) on both faces. Horn grips with wide pommel "ears". Beautifully chased and gilded silver bolsters and grip strap. Total length 30 inches very good condition. Minor pitted spots on the blade. Minor losses to the silver inlay work. No scabbard.
