Turkish Yatagan, Damascus Blade - 5853

A classical example of a “YATAGAN” sword, probably of Turkish origin. This specific example has a rather short down curving blade, 18 inches long, signed with a maker sign and forged from pattern welded steel (Damascus) in the pattern known as Twisted Star or Turkish Ribbon. This pattern is very common in swords of the Ottoman empire from the 18 Century and on. The grips are ivory and the grip strap is brass covered with a thin layer of silver. No scabbard. Fair condition. There are minor pitting along the lines of the pattern. There are very minor age cracks on the left grip and the right grip is a later addition, hence the different patina tint. Some of the silver covering of the grip strap is damaged. A nice example at a very low price. |
