Greek Yatagan - 5903

A very interesting - simple but made for real use - example of a classical “YATAGAN”, probably from Greece. This specific example has a heavy short down curving blade, 20 inches long. It is dated to 1887 and the Christian date as well as the style of engraving on the blade, hint to its Greek origin. Also the simple construction and the bolster shape are more common on Greek Yatagans. The grip strap is chased brass and the grips are black horn. No scabbard. Fair condition. The chiseled spine is damaged in its center from hammer hits, probably from its secondary use as a chopper. The blade was cleaned and the grips are later to the blade and with few small cracks and chips, probably replacing the original worn ones. A nice example at a very low price.
