Up for sale is this fine heavy curved dagger, Turkish origin, most probably from East / North Turkey. The blade, of flat diamond cross section is forged from fine pattern welded (Damascus) steel and decorated with gold koftgari panels on both sides of the blade. Blade length 11 1/2 inches. Blade width 2 inches. The I shaped handle is carved from a single massive walrus ivory. Wood scabbard covered with blue velvet and set with silver locket and chape (recent). Total length 17 1/2 inches. Very good condition. Age crack on the ivory. The gold work suggest an early to mid 19 C. Very impressive item.
