Very Good Late 18 C. Balkan Yataghan Sword - 9021

This yataghan blade is signed and dated to 1211 in the Islamic Calendar (1796 in the Gregorian Calendar). The very good blade is of classical shape, 23 inches long and richly inlaid with silver (True inlay) on both sides of the blade: inscription with Arabic decorated design on the other. The grips are cut from massive pieces of elephant ivory with big square shaped ears. Silver on tin grip strap and bolsters. Wood scabbard covered with black leather and stitched with brass wire in the spiral stitching technique. Brass locket and chape. Very good condition to age. Old soldering repair on the top side of the grip strap. Minor losses to the leather. The brass mounts are old and authentic but later to the blade., probably late 19 C. Very attractive price.
