Up for sale is this long Dao sword, coming from upper Assam, in the North East frontier of India. The long straight blade is 23 inches long, 10 mm thick at it base. The blade is forged from hard steel edge forge welded to a softer steel body. The handle is wood bound with braided fibers well lacquered, a steel collar and with a long tuft of black hair is attached to the pommel side. Total length 31 inches. Very good condition. Light pitting on the softer part of the steel. Minor damage to the blade tip. No scabbard. A scarce sword, hardly seen on the market. For a similar sword, see Egerton W Indian Arms… page 84, item 205.
