Unusual Beja X Dagger with Yemenite Scabbard - 8972


The Beja daggers with the big X shaped handle, sometimes known as Hadendoa or Beni Amer comes from the West South shores of the red sea. Some times in the early 20 C. , one of this daggers found its way to Yemen, short distance across the red sea and was fitted with a classical Yemenite Jambiya scabbard, resulted in a beautiful and rare combination. The blade is 7 inches, lightly re shaped to fit the Jambiya style scabbard. The big blackwood handle is 6 inches tall, 5 inches wide, bound with silver wire. The scabbard is silver, deeply curved, reminding those of the Mecca style daggers. Total length 13 inches. Very good condition. A very interesting item.
