This very elegant knife is from the Kard family, Turkish, dated to 1228 (1813 in the Gregorian calendar). The slender blade is forged from fine Wootz (Damascus) steel with the rare ladder pattern and decorated with gold koftgari inlay of Arabic inscription and the date 1228. Blade length 10 inches. Red stone (Agate ?) handle with gold and enameled bolsters. Total length 14 1/2 inches. Very good condition. Very shallow pitted dots on the blade. Losses to the enamel. No scabbard. A Fine item.
