Very Good Yataghan Sword with T shaped Pommel Dated 1293 (1876) - 8934


This Yataghan is coming from Central / North Turkey and it is characterized by the wide T shaped pommel. The blade is down curving 27 1/2 inches long, engraved with Arabic letters and dated to 1293 (1876 in the Gregorian calendar). The steel handle is mounted with horn grips sharply folded to produce the very wide 6 inches T shape of the pommel. A later braided copper strips were added to firmly hold the horn grips in place and to ensure a strong grip of the sword. Original wood scabbard with long chased white metal locket and chape. Total length 34 inches. Very good condition. few rings at the scabbard mouth are missing. An authentic scarce sword.
