Old Dayak Wood Shield, Kalimantan (Borneo) - 8627

This rare wood shield is coming from Kalimantan (Borneo) and is most probably of the Kenyah people of The Borneo Dayak group. Cut and carved from a single piece of wood, this shield is painted red and black in the classical style, and decorated with multiple tufts of black hair on its front face. Total length 49 inches. Maximum width 14 inches. Good condition. Considerable amount of hair tufts are missing in the shield lower part. The black painting is restored (not in a very professional manner) |
