Very Fine Turkish Shamshir with Ladder Pattern Wootz Blade - 8866

This very fine Shamshir shows one of the rarest pattern of wootz (watered steel / Damascus steel) forging. It is known as the Ladder pattern and shows parallel lines similar to ladder rungs, at a constant distances on both faces of the blade. This blade is 29 1/2 inches long with scarf welding at the top of the blade ( A forging technique where by the upper part of the blade is forged from softer steel and it is welded to the main part of the blade few inches below the cross guard, The grips are massive Rhino horn grips and the grip strap is steel inlaid with gold koftgari work. Total length 35 inches. Very good condition. No pitting. No scabbard. |
