This is Indian, late 18 to early 19 C. An armor piercing Kattar with a blade dedicated for this purpose: A wedge shaped with a diamond cross section, almost square, 8 1/2 inches long and almost 1 inch thick at its center. The top part is finely fullered to give the needed strength for this massive blade. The blade is forged from very fine Indian wootz steel (Crystalline) with a very fine, hardly noticeable pattern. The steel handles and triple cross bars were finely decorated with gold koftgari work, now partly gone. Total length 17 1/2 inches. Very good condition. A rare piece. We are many years in the business and never seen such a massive blade before.
