Very Fine Wootz Karud Knife from Bukhara - 8807

This very fine piece is coming from Bukhara. A typical Karud blade common to many regions in central Asia but decorated in a very typical Bukhara style: A massive single piece ivory grip and ring of turquoise stone set between the grip and the bolsters. The very fine blade with pronounced T spine is forged from very good wootz steel with high contrast pattern, 9 inches long. The bolsters are engraved silver and the grip is carved from a massive single piece of walrus ivory. The scabbard is wood, covered with black leather (recent) with heavy silver locket and chape, finely chiseled. Total length 14 1/2 inches. Very good condition. Very good age patina on the grip (upper part is darker as the lower part was most of the time in the scabbard). Few turquoise pieces are replaced with Lapis and/or red stones. The scabbard cover is a later replacement. A fine rare and complete item. |
