Jambiya Style Indonesian Dagger with Fine Pamor Blade - 8806

This dagger comes from Indonesia, probably Java, mid to late 19 C. it is a good example of the mixed influence of forging techniques with "Imported" shape and blade style. The blade is curved, double edged, 8 1/2 inches long with a shallow diamond cross section. It is forged from fine pamor steel with a spiral layer welded core inserted and forge welded into the upper center part of the blade. The I shaped handle is wood (most probably was covered with metal sheet which now is gone. The scabbard is light colored wood with mouth and tip made from darker wood pieces. Total length 13 inches. The blade shape and size and the handle and scabbard shape are of clear external influence, Indian and/or Arabian. A scarce and very interesting item.
