This Shamshir sword is of Turkish origin, mid to late 19 C. employing a secondary used blade of a European military saber. The 33 1/2 inches blade is decorated with gold koftgari work and fitted with classical Turkish style hilt, big rhino horn grips with bulbous pommel and steel grip strap. The engraved brass cross guard is later, may be 20 C. Total length 39 inches. Good condition, blackened spots and age patina on the blade but no pitting. The gold koftgari inscription is partially erased. No scabbard.
