Very Good Large Choora Dagger from the Khayber Pass - 8763

This Chhora knife is a typical example from the second half of the 19th century and it is coming from the Khayber pass area between India and Afghanistan. It was carried by the Mahsud people residing in this area. The blade is rather big, 11 inches long with a pronounced “T” back and reinforced edge, finely etched in a geometrical design. The grips are made of four sectors of ivory with good age patina, riveted to the tang with four rivets. The bolster and the hilt strap are white metal. The scabbard is wood, covered with tooled leather and big chased brass mounts.. Total length in scabbard 16 inches. Very good condition. This is a sturdy heavy duty example of a weapon meant for use and very well built. All parts are old and original. A beautiful addition to your collection of Oriental weapons at a very reasonable price. |
