Long Qama / Kindjal Short Sword - 5863

There are a lot of debates regarding the exact name of this type of dagger / short sword. Some people call it “QAMA”, other call it “QUADARA”. These names also applies to other - similar but not exactly the same - weapon. I prefer to call it a “Single edge Kindjal”. It origin is certainly in the Caucasus region. It comes in various sizes, up to 30 inches, and in a variety of quality and materials. This specific example has a single edge blade, 25 inches long. It has three fullers and it is marked with a deep maker sign. The grips are of black horn, riveted to the blade tang with two rivets. The scabbard is wood covered with the original black leather stitched in the original coils pattern and mounted with brass fittings. Total length is 32 plus inches. Some blade discoloration and an old knick on the edge, probably a battle scar. The brass tip is dented. Otherwise, all in very good solid condition, considering its age. It is a very interesting addition to any Caucasian or other edged weapon collection. |
