Fine Kard Knife with Wootz Blade - 8738

Up for sale is this fine Kard knife / dagger, Persian or central Asia, with a very fine Wootz (watered steel, Damascus) blade with very clear high contrast pattern known as ladder pattern. The blade length is 8 inches and it is decorated with gold koftgari work, showing a lion attacking an antelope. The grip strap is steel and the grips are ivory. It is interesting to note that one grip is elephant ivory and the other walrus ivory. Both are old, identical in shape and well made. We are not sure why it was so done. May be an old replacement?? Original leather covered scabbard with spiral stitching and brass tip. Total length 14 inches. Very good condition. Minor losses to the gold koftgari work. Leather shrink on the scabbard. An interesting item, Circa 1800, at a very attractive price.
