Short Turkish Yataghan Sword, 19 C. - 8733

This style of short yataghan sword is sometime referred to as "Naval Yataghan", probably due to its short blade. This exemplar has a finely forged blade, probably of sham steel, 15 inches long with a pronounced T shaped spine. The grips are walrus ivory and the grip strap and bolsters are filigree silver set with coral stones. This Yataghan comes with its original scabbard, covered with finely tooled leather, stitched with its original spiral stitching. Total length 21 1/2 inches. Good condition. Cracks and open solder seams on the grip strap and bolsters. Scabbard tip also slightly damaged.
