Early 19 C. Moroccan Rifle - 5855


An early 19 Century Moroccan Snaphunce gun with a 47 inches barrel. The barrel is bound with many engraved silver bands. The stock is heavily decorated with pierced and enameled iron pieces and the butt is set with strips of Ivory and reinforced with steel frame. Total Length 61 inches. Good condition. The lock needs an adjustment but all parts are there. This style of guns is known locally in Morocco as Altit and it is coming from the Little Atlas Mountains. (A Similar gun is shown in R. Elgood Firearms of the Islamic World page 73, Fig. 38. A very good piece, properly priced and an attractive addition to any Islamic and/or firearm collection.
