Whole Steel Indian ANKUS (Elephant Goad) - 8637

This is an Indian ANKUS, (Elephant Goad), used by the Indian to guide their elephants. Although it is not a pure weapon, it is always attached in Museum and private collections to Indian arms and armor. It also finds extended use as a ceremonial item displayed in parades and other important events. This one is made entirely of steel, 20 inches long with hollow haft. 3 steel bells within the haft are free to move and ring when the ankus is in use. Very good condition. Traces of silver koftgari work. Authentic item dated probably to the second half of the 19th C.
