Mid 19 C. Wahabite Jambiya Dagger - 8607

This long Dagger represent a class of Arab jambiya’s of its own. The long curved blade and the strong “I” shaped grip is characteristic to this class, which was the favored side arm of the Wahabite Arabs from central Arabiya, and which later on spread to all over the Arabian Peninsula mainly in the Central and West regions of Najd and the Hejaz. The blade is massive, deeply curved, 18 inches long with a heavy central rib. The hilt is steel, with two horn slabs riveted to the steel tang and partially decorated with silver plaques, silver buttons and silver and copper nails. The scabbard is covered with leather. Two steel rings are attached to the scabbard, used as a belt attachment. To carry the dagger on the front of the belly in an almost horizontal position. Total length 23 1/2 inches. Very good condition. A small pitted spot at the center of the blade and minor edge nicks. This is a real and very impressive fighting weapon. All parts are authentic and original, probably from the mid 19 Century. |
