Persian Shield and Helmet, Late 19 C. Qajar Period - 8517

This set of shield and helmet are Persian, late 19 C., end of the Qajar period. They both come from the same collection where they were displayed as a set. They are indeed very similar in style decoration and materials, but not exactly matched. The shield is 17 1/2 inches in diameter. The helmet is 7 inches high with 4 1/2 inches long spike at the top and a complete and original mail collar. The total height of the helmet with the mail collar is 27 inches. Both the helmet and the shield are finely etched with inscriptions in Arabic letters on the background of rich floral decoration. Hunting scenes are also etched on the shield. Both items in very good plus condition. |
