17 C Mail and Plate Armor Shirt, India - 8519

We offer for sale this late 17 to early 18 C. mail and plates armor shirt from India, composed of many thousands of separate rings each one interlaced with four other rings and each one individually riveted. This shirt was made for a rather small guy: 25 inches tall and 44 inches wide with sleeves fully stretched. The shirt has two chest plates with buckles in each, four side plates and three rows of scales on the back. The right breast plate is inscribed both outside and inside with Arabic as well as hindu letters, suggesting that this armor change hands during the many battles taken place in India in the 17 and 18 C. Very good condition. Very few missing rings. Some old repairs on the plates on the inner side. A rare piece in good condition. |
