Early 18 C. Fine Shamshir Sword with Indo-Persian Handle - 8515

Up for sale is this Shamshir sword with a very fine blade and unusual handle. The blade is Persian, forged from wootz (Damascus) steel, marked with the maker mark and dated to 122. This date most probably refers to 1122 in the Islamic calendar (1710 in the Gregorian calendar). The curved and single edge blade is 31 inches long. The handle is cast brass, styled like a Persian Shamshir handle but probably coming from Indian origin. It is finely engraved and polished with very good age patina. It is later to the blade, probably 19 C. Total length 35 1/2 Inches. Very good condition. No scabbard. A fine blade.
